What this is
Trump by Numbers tracks the record of the Trump administration using official statistics. Every number comes from a primary government source, it's dated, and it's shown with its history, so you can see how it's changed over time and not just where it stands today.
How we pick metrics
We decide which metrics to show based on what we think matters, not on the direction they happen to point in. If there isn't a reliable official source for a number, we don't include it.
How we handle the numbers
The numbers themselves are shown as they are. Each one is sourced, dated, and plotted over time, usually next to previous administrations at the same point. Figures that look good and figures that look bad are both there. We don't take a metric down because it's started to look better, and when the official data has gaps, we leave them visible rather than fill them in with estimates.
What this isn't
This isn't a neutral utility, and it isn't an attack site. We have a clear view on which measures of a presidency are worth paying attention to, but not on the numbers themselves, and we don't add any commentary or narrative on top of them.
How it runs
The board updates itself from official sources every day, and it's open source, so you can look at the code and the data behind any number yourself. If you notice a mistake or something that looks wrong, let us know.
